Syd Rowley's Seven

I recently stumbled on this post by Colin Howey which started a couple of us thinking about some of Syd's other little sayings. I'll be mentioning some of these in future posts, but for now enjoy Colin's memory of something I'm sure I heard Syd talk about in one of my classes.

Syd Rowley taught physics at the Fitzwimarc School in Rayleigh in the 70s and 80s.

  1. I'm sure Sid taught me during my GCE year 1964. A small fiery, energetic chap who didn't stand any nonsense.

  3. I have just quoted one of Mr Rowley's sayings in my blog. 'Draw a dirty big diagram.' I then stumbled across your blog. http://blog.discoverthat.co.uk/2016/08/project-management-conflict.html
He taught me during the late 70's and early 80's and everyone was scared of him. An excellent teacher.

  4. Indeed, I was talking about him with another ex-Fitz only a few weeks ago, many fond memories of first years waiting outside the lecture theatre wondering who was taking the class because the regular teacher was off...

  5. As his Grandson, my family and I have loved reading your fond memories/stories of Syd. Thank you very much for sharing and we would be thrilled if you had any more to share.

    Thank you,

    1. Jonathan.
He was one of the best teachers but I'm fairly sure we did not appreciate his discipline at the time! He could cut the worst bully down to size in just a few words.
Comments are not the best way to share this retrospective.
